Spinning Bluebottle

These round bluebottles are often washed up on the beaches and as the waves wash over them they spin over the sand in the clear water.

A hard days work

The fishermen at work.

The fishermen don't necessarily own the boat they fish in. There are 2 fishermen per rowing boat and the owner is considered the 3rd fisherman - the catch is then split 3 ways - thereby earning the owner money and the fisherman their keep.

Local fishing boats

The local fishermen park their boats on Tofo beach just outside Casa Barry. The fishing boats go out early everyday - they come back with their fresh catch later in the day which is sold at the local market or sent to the Inhambane market.

Jellyfish

This beautiful purple jellyfish was tanning on the beach - I hope it landed up back in the sea.

Tow Fee

This sign on the way to Mango Beach offers anybody getting stuck a tow for 2 free beers :) - the road is a beach sand road through the coconut trees.

The owners of the lodge say they have towed loads of people but nobody has ever paid the 2 free beers.

What a cute kid

This kid goat has got such beautiful markings and such a cute face.

The funniest thing I have seen on a menu in Mozambique is "Kid Curry - Mozambiques lamb" although I would hate to think of this little fellow being on any menu.

An unusual sight

The storm clouds rolled in from the South. I must say that it is not the usual sight of beautiful blue skies - but was a welcomed change from the boiling hot weather that is the norm.

A Giant Breath of Wind

Early one morning this cloud passed by from the south. The cloud stretched from the horizon out at sea to over the hills on land. It was icy cold as the cloud passed overhead.
To me it looked like a giant was shouting to the world from out at sea.

A passing ship

This ship passed by about 1 km out to sea on it's way to Bazaruto Island - what a cool holiday!

Diving at Tofo

Diving is really big in Tofo with a number of dive schools operating in the area. The reefs are some of the best in the world and any dive will just about guarantee sightings of Whale Sharks, Dolphins, Turtles among other sea life.

Not for the faint hearted

This surfer was being pulled onto the waves by a friend on a jet ski - really not for the faint hearted!

Man against the Mighty Sea

A local fisherman on the rocks at Tofinho. This man fishes off these rocks everyday to earn his livelihood.

A face could tell a thousand stories

I wonder how many stories this face could tell. I wonder if it would it be stories of joy and happiness or sadness and hardships.

Tofo Moon

The night skies in Tofo are absolutely stunning - there are millions of stars and the milky way spreads across the sky like a cloud - I wish I could get a photo of the stars.

Surfing Dolphins

The dolphins pass by all during the day but every now and again they play around close to the shore. On this day they spent about an hour surfing - it was really cool to watch them having such fun.

My Bush Internet Connection

I currently have a portable internet connection setup on my "Dune Office". The airconditioning and lighting is generally good - hehe.

Although generally reliable and fast we have had server problems for the past week.

After the Storm

This is another photo I took after cyclone Favio - although the sea can be beautiful it can be a destructive force when angered by the wind and other elements.

After the Storm

This photo of the houses at Tofo Beach was taken after cyclone Favio hit Mozambique - the road was washed away and started causing destruction to the small front yards of the properties. Five years ago there were beach bars on the beach side of the road with about 100m of beach in front of them. Now the houses are in jeopardy.

Surfers Paradise

Tofinho is a surfing hotspot and people come from all around the world to catch a wave or two. Although the waves are not always big there is always a perfect right break.

Whales

Even the Whales come to Tofo on holiday. From June to October there are hundreds of whales passing by or just playing out at sea - it is a spectacular sight with the younger whales diving in and out of the water.

Tofinho Blowhole

These blowholes at Tofinho are stunning. The sound of the water blowing through the holes in the rocks is very loud and the spray rises really high.

A new day dawns

The sun peeks out over the horizon and spreads its warm arms out to embrace this beautiful place. A new day dawns.

Coconut Man - Up Close

Coconut Man

As we passed this man selling coconuts on the side of the road to Maxixe we were surprised to see he was a "scarecrow" man - he looked so realistic from far but so far from real close up

A beautiful rainbow stretched across the sky of Tofo beach - a reminder of the beautiful earth God created.
